5 Ways to Practice Self Compassion

Self Compassion

Self Compassion

I'm feeling like we need this right now. I'm feeling like everyone is a bit stressed. I'm feeling like change is upon us and that we need to practice self-compassion.

But how?

How do we practice Self-Compassion?

1) Inner dialog.

Be nice to you. When you're feeling stressed and overwhelmed, stop for a minute, talk a deep breath and tell yourself, "It's okay. It's alright that I feel crazy right now, I still love me."

I don't care if you label that voice as your Higher Self, the Goddess (any one of them) God, Allah, Angels.

It's all of them or none of them. It doesn't matter, its all the same if the result is feeling more peaceful.

It's an act of compassion directed toward yourself.

2) Do nice things for yourself.

Give yourself flowers or a beautiful piece of jewelry. Take a bath or a walk. Dress up for no particular reason and tell yourself how beautiful you are.

Do something that will make you happy, even if it's just for a moment.

Those moments are important. They're a break from the monotony and necessary to help shift you to a better vibration. Don't wait for someone else to do these things.

3) Give yourself permission to cry.

Maybe not wig out in the middle of the supermarket but it's okay to cry when you feel overwhelmed.

We think its a sign of weakness, we are afraid that we'll loose.....something; yet crying is incredibly therapeutic. It's a very natural way to release stress and anxiety.

The trick is to recognize that these emotions are just temporary.

The only way out of feeling horrible is to move through the feeling. Sometimes it involves crying. It's okay.

If you feel like you shouldn't cry in front of people then save it for the shower. And be compassionate to yourself while your crying.

Gag your inner bully and sit beside yourself while you purge all those emotions.

4) Trust.

Trust that the Universe and the Gods are all conspiring in your favor. It doesn't always look or feel that way but trust anyway.

Take a deep breath and wait. Quiet your mind. Shush the nagging voices that keep saying everything is going to Hell.

We don't always get to see the big picture. We don't always understand that this situation that seems so overwhelming is actually clearing the way to something even better.

We don't always understand that feeling these horrible emotions are often the only way through and running away and avoiding the emotional part is a sure way to stay stuck.

5) Keep Positive.

It's so hard to always stay positive, we start to feel like a fake when we refuse to acknowledge the ugly parts of life and we should. Yucky things happen.

There's no getting around that. Acknowledge it. "Yes, this sucks. It's horrible; I'm miserable, I don't know how to fix it."

Cry if you feel like it and keep that inner voice talking. The one that reminds you that this will pass. That you won't always be miserable.

When you turn your attack inward and blame yourself for everything going wrong, make sure that voice is disagreeing with you. When you start to doubt your capabilities, make sure that voice is cheering you on with 'You-can-do-it's' and 'You-rock's'

Right now the sun is in Virgo, the new moon and the solar eclipse are upon us. I'm not an astrologer so I can't say what this all means but I'm sure it has something to do with the feeling in the air.

The stress, anxiety and the impulse to change.

Be nice to you in the next few days. Be extra kind to others to.

It's a good time to start a practice of Self Compassion.
