How are you Fairing this Mid winter Weather?
We are up to our knees in snow today.
Yesterday's Mark of the beginning of Spring brought us a the first Blizzard of the year. Isn't that how it always goes?
All the plans that I had were interrupted periodically to shovel. Growing up in the Mid-west you learn early that if you don't shovel as it snows, its just that much harder when it stops.
By morning though, the sun was shining and the drifts were glistening. And we still had to dig out the cars!
Fortunately, it's not incredibly cold. Temperatures are hovering around 30 degrees F and the sun is shining. Happy Imbolc!
I did spend some fun time with the kids yesterday making Corn Husk Dolls and Corn Husk Besoms to add to our family alter.
It was Ruby Gloom's first REAL Besom and she's in her room sweeping away the negative energy as I type! The crystals there? Rough cut Carnelian surrounding a tumbled Peach Aventurine. Thought the warm energy would be a good way to welcome back the Sun *smile*
(Yes, those are twinkle lights from Christmas - I keep them out until Spring really starts. I like the warm glow, especially at night.)
Last Friday I sat in on an online class at the Sage Goddess. It was the beginning of a series on Astrology (which she'll be holding on the last Friday of every month, free of charge) I have been fascinated with Astrology since I was about 9 years old, reading my horoscope in the local paper. But in all the years I've dabbled, I still don't know much - a little bits for the signs in my family.
This months class was on Aquarius, because that's the sign we're in right now. I found it absolutely fascinating because I really don't know any Aquarian people. The other thing I found interesting was that the Sign doesn't only influence the people born under it or have it in their birth charts, but kind of permeates the energy of life on this planet during it course at center stage.
In other words, right now, there is an Aquarian Energy influencing us right now and will continue until the Sun moves into Pisces.
Not going to give away too much in case you want to watch the video (follow the link above) but two things stuck with me:
First, Aquarius seeks to find balance between Thought and Emotion which is why Amethyst is February's Birthstone and why these dark winter months find us confronting our shadow selves.
And Second - Aquarius is the Water bearer, which refers to purifying with water.
I personally found that fascinating because Traditionally, February is when I start my spring-cleaning-wall-washing stint. I always say that washing walls is therapeutic; It's like washing away all the negative crap in my head. This year is no different. I'll be scheduling in some water therapy, starting with the little dust bats hanging above the ceiling fan.
Over at The Inner Goddess Circle we are working with the Sumerian Goddess Inanna and Strength. I'm really excited about this one. She's pretty damn powerful.
As part of my work with her, I've decided to start a strength training routine. Exercise has never really been 'my thing' and now that I've reached my forties, I no longer strive to look like a supermodel.
Which is great because I'm way too short for that shit.
When working with esoteric ideas and Goddesses, the theme is more abstract. Strength, this month, is referring to inner strength and the abilities to get through the tough parts of life. I donned my Viking helmet and stopped being a damsel in distress right about the time my first marriage dissolved.
But still, I'm proud of my physical abilities and I feel like strength training is a good physical way of integrating the abstract idea of Strength.
So that's the personal work I have planned for this month. Artistically, I'm super excited because I've got an Inanna Spirit Doll in the design stage, Two pieces of Magical Jewelry incorporating Gemstones for Strength and Some Book of Shadow Pages to offer by the end of the month.
I've just about finished my Goal page, I'll be sharing this as a freebie on Facebook later today! Be Sure to download your copy and write in your To-Do list for the month!
